Course Description:
This targeted training is designed for contractors installing heat pump water heater (HPWH) systems in single-family and small commercial buildings. Key topics include product selection and right-sizing by matching First-Hour Rating to peak demand with typical 50/65/80-gallon applications and evaluating trade-offs between 120 V and 240 V units. It also covers installation and site readiness, including selecting appropriate locations (garage, basement, closet, or outdoor), planning for ducting and condensate routing, and verifying electrical capacity or alternatives such as subpanels, smart panels, or shared-circuit 120 V units. Finally, the session addresses controls, customer handoff, and maintenance, with guidance on operating primarily in heat-pump mode, setting TOU/programming, and providing filter care, annual checks, and homeowner education.
